Single moms looking for a great new city for a fresh start, take heart! The best dating scenes for single moms was recently explored by and they have a top 10 list that spans the country. This list caught my attention because a local city, Alpharetta Georgia, came in at number two. Alpharetta is an attractive city about 25 miles from Atlanta. Located on the Chattahoochee River, there are several parks, including the Waggy World Paw Park for dogs, nature trails, and historic sites, but what I love about Alpharetta is the shopping – apparently, I’m not alone. Stores here range from bargain thrift stores to antique markets to upscale shopping malls.

Beating out Alpharetta for the number one spot was Yonkers, New York. Yonkers is located along the Hudson River and is a popular place for all types of outdoor activities, including boating, hiking, and skiing. With 373 acres of parks, Yonkers is a beautiful city to get outside and meet new people. Festivals and events, such as the popular Hudson River Festival, make living in this historic city – with a history that dates back to the late 1600s – a great place to live. A major reason it may be such a draw for single moms is the excellent public school system. Yonkers has several award-winning schools, as well as several colleges and St. Joseph’s Seminary.

If you are interested in the west coast, two west coast cities made the list: Beverly Hills, California came in at number 4 and Olympia, Washington came in at number 7. Although the reasons for Beverly Hills to be on the list may seem obvious, there’s more to the story. Just over 50 percent of the population is female, and nearly 40 percent is listed as single-person households. Combine this with a median income of over $80,000 and it’s safe to say there’s a large, affluent dating pool in Beverly Hills.

When I think of Olympia, I think of clean, fresh air, large green spaces, amazing wildlife, and a sustainable, eco-friendly city. I don’t often think of it as a dating Mecca, but with its strong number 7 showing, obviously single moms think this Washington city is the place to be. Single moms may prefer Olympia because it is consistently ranked as a safe city. It is also a healthy city, named PETA’s 2010 Most Vegetarian and Vegan Friendly City. As for getting outdoors, Olympia has it all – great weather, soaring mountains, and beautiful beaches. It’s the perfect place for the athletic, outdoorsy mom.

Single moms have a lot to consider when moving. Sure, economy and cost of living ranks high, but they also have to consider the school systems, daycare options, safety, transportation, parks, and the dating scene. Whether you start with these cities or a list of your own, be sure to take all factors into consideration when choosing the best location for you and your kids.
