The best time of year is finally here! NFL and college football are back and here to stay for the remainder of 2016 and into February! This season is the perfect time to host a tailgate party for friends and family at your apartment. Nothing is better than eating delicious tailgate treats and watching one of America’s greatest sports. Not sure what dishes to make at your tailgate event? Do not fret, Schottenstein Real Estate Group has 8 delicious suggestions for you to consider!
Everyone loves nachos, so you may as well take them to the next level at your football viewing party. Use lime-seasoned chips, ground beef or chicken, black beans, melted shredded cheese, diced tomatoes and lettuce, and jalapenos. Don’t forget a heap of sour cream and guacamole to complete the dish.
Tailgates are meant for dipping, and spinach-artichoke dip will always taste delicious and never get old. Saute a batch of onions and then add in chopped artichoke and spinach. Add cream cheese, sour cream, and Parmesan cheese. Continue mixing all of the ingredients until the combination looks creamy and well mixed. Throw the dip into a bake-safe pan, add shredded cheese on top, and throw it in the oven. Pita or pita chips will be perfect for dipping!
Slow-Cooked Pulled Pork
The slow cooker is your best friend when hosting a tailgate party. The slow cooker is a miracle worker that will make hosting the party and cleaning up after your guests easy for you. Simply combine onion powder, brown sugar, chili powder, salt, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne with the pork before refrigerating it for 8 hours. After that, add a combination of Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, and vegetable oil.
Let the pork sit in the slow cooker for 10 hours and then just reheat it on game day for 30-40 minutes!
Mac & Cheese Squares
It would be unfair to your guests to not include some type of macaroni and cheese dish at your party. Cook macaroni-shaped pasta and melt the shredded cheese of your choice (we recommend cheddar). Melt butter and flour together in a saucepan and eventually add milk until the mixture thickens. Turn down the heat and add a pinch of salt and pepper. Add this mixture to the mac and cheese mixture.
Place the whole mixture into an oven-safe pan, add a layer of bread crumbs and place the pan in the oven. Once cooled, cut into squares and have a delicious tailgate dish ready for your guests!
Loaded Sweet Potatoes
Even though tailgating is not supposed to be about being healthy, your guests may appreciate at least one health-conscious dish. We recommend loaded sweet potatoes! Load them up with sliced broccoli, peppers, and avocado. This yummy and nutritious treat is bound to be a big hit!
Tomato Soup & Grilled Cheese
Homemade tomato soup is a delicious tailgate treat. Make homemade tomato soup with chicken stock, crushed tomatoes, whole tomatoes, and a splash of heavy cream. Accompany the soup with an assortment of grilled cheeses. Use different cheeses such as Gouda, Swiss, and cheddar to offer your guests a variety of flavors. Your apartment will be filled with lots of smiles after you serve this dish!
Wings 4 Ways
It wouldn’t be a tailgate without chicken wings. Provide your guests with different types of wings that will appeal to their appetites. Fan favorites to consider are buffalo, honey barbecue, grilled, and teriyaki wings. Remember to provide dipping sauces such as blue cheese and ranch, and of course celery and carrots to pull it all together.
Pumpkin Spice Rice Krispy Treats
Don’t forget about dessert! Pumpkin spice Rice Krispy treats will impress your guests and is a great way to incorporate one of the best flavors of fall. You can make them just as you would make normal Rice Krispy treats, but you’ll add in pumpkin puree, nutmeg, and cinnamon to bring out that much-loved pumpkin spice flavor. Really wow your guests by topping the treats with swirls of melted white chocolate.
It can be intimidating to host an event at your apartment. There are so many factors to consider and you want to make sure that your guests are satisfied. However, hosting a tailgate party does not have to be stressful, it should be fun for you too! Consider making these dishes when planning your party and enjoy watching your favorite team (hopefully) win the big game!
