December 8

Solvang, California is in full-on Christmas mode with the start of their annual Julefest festival. Nicknamed, The Danish Capital of America, Solvang celebrates the holidays with a traditional Danish-style extravaganza and old world charm. The town’s main street, Copenhagen Drive, is home to many Danish bakeries, merchants, and restaurants that reflect the traditional style of Danish architecture. These business store fronts are dressed to the nines during the Christmas season with an assortment of holiday lights, delicately placed garland, and fully decorated trees that turn Copenhagen into a magical winter wonderland for passersby.

The Julefest (Yule-fest) is a month long celebration filled with holiday activities and yuletide fun. The event kicked off December 5th, with the official Tree Lighting Ceremony at Solvang Park. This free admission event invited guests to witness the illumination of the town tree while listening to live entertainment, then concluding with a visit from Santa Claus. December 13th– 14th is the weekend of the Julefest Holiday Wine and Beer Walk. This Solvang tradition will take you around the city to more than 13 tasting rooms, where you can sample the fine wines of California Wine Country and brews from local breweries (must be 21+).

Saturday, December 13th, take your family to see the live Nativity pageant at the Solvang amphitheater. This free event is the perfect outing for the family as actors, choral groups, and live animals reenact the Christmas story onstage – this event is first-come-first serve, so get there ASAP for a good seat! If you’re in need of a little shopping, the Jule Hus is the place to go! This Solvang-exclusive store celebrates Christmas year-round with old-European flare. Jule Hus, located on Mission Drive, provides customers with traditional European holiday decorations and emphasis on Scandinavian culture.
