With the new school year vastly approaching, you may be in talks with your family about going on an end-of-summer getaway. A vacation is always good; everyone will come back feeling refreshed and rested before heading back to the classroom. Contemplating where to take the family for an end-of-summer vacation? Below are four amazing family-friendly summer destinations the whole crew will enjoy.

The Ranch at Emerald Valley – Colorado Springs, CO

Just outside of Colorado Springs, a charming retreat that offers the full Colorado hiking and camping experience awaits. The Ranch at Emerald Valley is a part of The Broadmoor resort, and offers an outdoor “wilderness experience” unlike any other around. The campground, nestled between 100,000 acres of the Pike National Forest, contains 10 deluxe cabins with mountain views and wood-burning fireplaces.

Guests are immersed in camping activities right from the start. Enjoy a scenic hike through the national forests, fly fish at the trout pond, or indulge in something sweet with s’mores by the fire pit. Other activities you can do at The Ranch at Emerald Valley include horseback riding, archery, canoeing and mountain biking.

A day of adventure deserves a day of rest and relaxation – just hop onto The Broadmoor’s bus and ride down the mountain to the resort! Play a round of golf on their championship green, sun bathe by one of two pools, get a message at the spa, or see a movie at the theater! Gourmet meals are served onsite at the cabins, specially prepared each day by the resort’s culinary masters.

Skytop Lodge – Skytop, PA

Located at the base of West Mountain is the Skytop Lodge, a resort with grandeur amenities throughout. Surrounded by the Poconos Mountains, this 5,500 acre estate not only offers guests rooms with exceptional views and service, but also provides cool excursions for adventurists. The resort has over 30 miles of hiking trails; you could call it a hiker’s paradise.

Guests who want to spend their vacation time outdoors have a lot of exciting activities to choose from. The Adventure Center features a 3,000 ft. zip line and obstacle course, paintball, rock climbing, and ATV rides. Other cool activities to do are archery, horseback riding, lawn games and paddle boarding. Guests who need a day of pampering can send their kids to Camp Skytop, while you relax at the 5th floor spa.

Camp Skytop activities include group tennis or golf lessons and a hike exploring the Poconos with an instructor.

Skytop Lodge is a place of peace. The resort has an indoor and outdoor luxury pool and a lake with a beach.  On the lake, you and the family can paddleboard. Rooms at the Skytop are elegantly designed and the restaurants are top-notch.

The Rancho Bernardo Inn – San Diego, CA

Amongst local vineyards that produce some of the best wines in Southern California, Rancho Bernardo Inn makes the perfect end-of-summer retreat for wine-lovers and families alike. This Spanish-style architect resort caters to kids and adults. The “Kids Rule, Parents Drool” package provides children with all-access wrist bands for activities within the resort, such as unlimited trips to the golf range, pool time, and all-you-can-eat privileges at the resort restaurants. Upon arrival, kids will be greeted with a goody basket and list of fun activities.

Highlights from the resort include The Spa and an 18-hole championship golf course. For farm-to-table fare with a Californian twist, AVANT is the place you want to be. Veranda Fireside Lounge serves guests Mediterranean-inspired meals, which you can enjoy on their beautifully decorated patio. Sports enthusiasts can grab a couple of pints at The Bar. When you stay at The Rancho Bernardo Inn, be sure to visit the San Diego Zoo and white sand beaches.

Disney Pop Century Resort – Kissimmee, FL

Disney World is a magical place where families come together for a memorable vacation. After a day of riding roller coasters in the hot Florida sun, what could be more enticing than a large, refreshing pool to cool off? Well, maybe ice cream.  Disney Pop Century Resort has three swimming pools (yes, you heard that correctly) and ice cream, too.

This hotel is unlike any other because it’s also a pop-culture museum! Amenities around the resort include a walking trail, playground and arcade. Food here is kid-approved, with a typical menu featuring pizza, burgers, fries, hot dogs and sandwiches daily.

Families can come together for a relaxing Disney movie under the stars by the Hippy Dippy Pool, or shop for their favorite character souvenirs at the Everything Pop store. And if you want time away from the kids, the resort offers in-room babysitting services.
