Earlier this week we went over some ways to get ready for pool season, so let’s keep up the theme! One of the best apartment amenities to have in the summertime is a community pool, because you can cool off from the heat within a few steps away from your doorstep. Chances are your friends and family think so, too. Now is the perfect time to start planning a pool party, and once you get it right the first time, you’re all set to throw a few more in the upcoming months. If you have never hosted a pool party before, here three tips most apartment residents don’t consider:

Pick a Pool

If there is more than one pool in your community, scope them out a week or two before your pool party. Will you have kids as guests? If there’s a kiddie pool or one that the neighborhood kids enjoy most, the kids can make new friends and entertain themselves. Or choose the pool closest in proximity to your apartment if you and your guests need easy access to your home. Reserve the date and time with the front office, or head out early the day of your pool party to stake your claim.

Send Out Invitations

Whether you invite your guests by snail mail, Evite or Facebook, you will need a proper head count to prepare accordingly. Besides the date, time and name of your apartment community, provide the exact location of the pool. Also, it doesn’t hurt to remind your guests that bathing suits and towels are a must. Every apartment community has its own rules, but more than likely t-shirts and shorts are not allowed.

Think About a Changing Area

If you’re worried about your guests walking through your home dripping wet, create a designated changing area by the pool. Since there’s always a guest or two who show up to a pool party unprepared, you’ll want to have a few bottles of sunscreen and a couple of towels just in case. The changing area is an ideal place to put these extras, so you won’t need to go back and forth from the pool to your apartment. It’s also convenient for guests with kids, because it’s easier to get them in and out of their swimsuits.

Finally, you just have to plan your food, drinks, music and decorations. A pool party is a favorite pastime for most, and living in an apartment community with a pool makes it easy to create some awesome summertime memories.
