Homemade Memorial Day Hamburger Picnic with Chips and Fruit

Everyone’s favorite patriotic holiday is right around the corner! The Fourth of July is the perfect opportunity to celebrate our great nation’s birthday the American way with cookouts, music, baseball, and fireworks. You can have the most American July 4th ever without even leaving your apartment complex. Host your friends and family at your very own apartment during this year’s Independence Day weekend for tasty food and fun laughs at your own barbecue. There’s a lot more to contribute to the barbecue besides burgers and hot dogs. See what else you can do, here:

Make yummy grilled pizza

Pizza on the grill is one of the easiest and most delicious barbecue treats. Use pita bread for the crust, and add your favorite tomato sauce, cheese, and pizza toppings, and then throw it on the grill covered for 2-3 minutes. Your guests will love this unique barbecue treat!

Prepare a fresh batch of sangria

Sangria is a delicious and refreshing summer drink to serve at your barbecue. It is a great way to dress up inexpensive wine with fresh fruit and easy to serve since you can make one giant batch for guests to serve themselves. Feeling ambitious and festive? Make three batches- one with red wine, one with white wine, and one non-alcoholic batch with blue Kool-Aid.

Throw your favorite veggies on the grill

Grilled vegetables is a healthy and appetizing side dish to serve your guests. Chop up zucchini, yellow squash, bell peppers, and onions, add salt and pepper and olive oil, wrap it up in tinfoil and throw them on the grill. While it can take up to 30 minutes for the veggies to fully cook, this recipe is easy enough and worth the bit of a wait.

Create the perfect all-American playlist

Good tunes will assist in making your barbeque one to remember. Get your guests into the Fourth of July mindset with a lively assortment of American spirited and much-loved songs such as “Born in the USA” by Bruce Springsteen, “Wagon Wheel” by Darius Rucker, “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus, “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd, and “American Boy” by Estelle featuring Kanye West. A solid playlist will both get your guests on their feet and thinking about what being an American means to them.

Hold a hot dog eating contest

As fun as it is to watch the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest from Coney Island on television, it will be even more fun to watch one in person between your closest friends and family members! Everyone loves a little competition, and a hot dog eating contest is not only hilarious to watch, but a great way to have your guests interact with one another and enjoy one of the most classic American foods out there.

Make a patriotic dessert

Having fun with red, white, and blue in your cooking and baking is always a good time, but especially during the Fourth of July. There are dozens of delicious options to choose from such as a classic flag cake, patriotic ice cream cupcakes layered with red, white, and blue ice cream, or festive dessert skewers with marshmallows, strawberries, blueberries, and brownie bites. Patriotic desserts are bound to delight your guests’ sweet tooth.

We are fortunate in many ways to be a part of this great nation. Be sure to take a minute out of your activity-packed July 4th weekend to reflect on this. Enjoy a fun, festive, and safe Fourth of July barbecue at your apartment this year!
