So far, the Ice Bucket Challenge has raised over $30 million for ALS. The list of those participating in the challenge ranges from college students to athletes to politicians to movie and rock stars, and it is a phenomenon that shows no sign of slowing down.
ALS was discovered by a French neurologist in 1869, but it wasn’t until it struck famous baseball player Lou Gehrig in 1939 that the disease started to gain national and international attention. Often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, ALS is a progressive degeneration of the motor neurons that eventually leads to death. ALS usually strikes people between 40 and 70, and roughly 30,000 Americans have the disease.
The Ice Bucket Challenge works like this: Make a video of yourself getting ice water dumped on your head. Post the video to social media and challenge your friends to do the same within 24 hours or donate $100 to ALS – many choose to do both.
Starting the challenge off for the company, Apartment Finder’s Regional Sales Director/Central and Northeast Michael Peterson did the Ice Bucket Challenge and then challenged his Kansas City team.
Kansas City Account Executives Hallie Delagardelle and Ryan Wear accepted the challenge, and their video is below:
They, in turn, challenged Apartment Finder President Marcia Bollinger and Kevin Telfer. Marcia thought it was a great idea to show support and raise awareness for ALS and to make an AF donation to the cause, but also to get the AF reps in town for the August 2014 Sales Training Conference involved. After class, they piled into their cars and drove to the local hotel where they were staying and gathered together in the parking lot. Buckets were filled with ice and water and the AF Management Team took the first challenge, dumping the ice cold water over their heads.
Before their dousing, Bollinger first challenged the trainees, and then issued the challenge to the broader AF team: “Our 2014 AF University Team accepted the Ice Bucket Challenge, and now challenges all AF Publishers and Field Teams across the USA! Accept the challenge so you can feel the exhilaration of the victory!”
Apartment Finder is proud to be a part of this great cause, and we can’t wait to see more Ice Bucket Challenge videos!
