Atlanta Apartment Finder Can Can Ball

On Friday, August 21, 2009 members and friends of the Atlanta Apartment Association celebrated the 19th annual Can Can Ball at the Sheraton in downtown Atlanta. This black tie optional event is one of the largest in Atlanta and the largest single fund raising event for the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Attendees enjoyed light fare from area chefs, dancing, and a silent auction featuring over 150 items including a hot tub, iPhones, iPods, vacation get-aways and Tiffany jewelry.

Apartment Finder of Atlanta was a top level sponsor of the Can Can Ball. Amy Moye, Senior Account Executive of Apartment Finder in Atlanta volunteered her time on the Ticket Sales Committee and Account Executive Kelley Van Horn was instrumental in serving on the Silent Auction Committee. Many vendors and owner-managers volunteered their time to make this event remarkable. Virginia Love, Marketing and Training Director of Waterton Residential, Director of the Can Can Ball and future President of the Atlanta Apartment Association, continues to raise the bar, every year, with this event.

The Can Can Ball’s infamous name is representative of the canned food drive that the Atlanta Apartment Association kicks-off each summer, placing food barrels at every participating apartment community in Atlanta to collect canned food items. On October 9th 2009, our industry will come together again for a Food-A-Thon parade to deliver the collected items and stock the shelves of the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

Mr. Rob Johnston, Owner of First Communities, started collecting food at one of his communities when he had less than a dozen in Atlanta. One of the food recipients came into the community and thanked the staff, letting them know just what a difference his small donation made. Twenty-five years later, it has grown into what is today’s largest food drive in the country.
