Last week over 170 multi-family professionals and suppliers discerned onto the state capital in Tallahassee, Florida for their annual trip to promote FAA’s legislative agenda. With over 100 Capital Hill appointments with elected officials, this year’s conference was a huge success! Legislative Days kicked off with a Briefing meeting that opened up with Representative Dorworth, Future Speaker. FAA’s lobbyist, staff and key legislative leaders were also present to help prepare the group for their Capital Hill visits the following day.
FAA’s three priority issues for this year include:
- Fire Codes Exemption – exempt existing communities from installing fire alarm equipment
- Sadowski Affordable Housing Trust Fund – Focus on removing the cap. Better known as; “Scrap the Cap”
- Recycling Mandates – Multifamily is requesting a seat at the table during the revising process of this recycle mandate bill
The evening concluded with a dinner with the House and Senate leadership, Representative Hasner, House Majority Leader, and Senator Hariodopolos, Future Senate President as our distinguished speakers.
We want to thank all of the advocates who joined the Florida Apartment Association Legislative Days this year for their help in influencing critical legislation affecting the apartment industry. Together we can make a difference!
