Of course, Melissa jumped right in and said “absolutely!,” she and AF would love to be one of the companies cooking and selling food during the Music Festival held to raise money. The day was a huge success with all the vendorsraising over $9000 that day! Melissagot 99% of the hot dogs & hamburgers she cooked donated, so she and her team were able to donate 100% of the proceeds, $2,300, to the Shelter!! In fact, she gathered so much food, she had 700 bags of chips left over that she took back the next day to give to the folks at the worksite!Melissa said it was a long, hot 2 days, (working at the festival, then helping build the house!) but she and her team really enjoyed being part of it!

Now back to the Makeover . . . A retired Navy chaplain, Barbara Marshall had donated her older house to be the home for homeless female veterans and their children. You can imagine how surprised she and the 2 families living there were when paratroopers dropped out of the sky and were followed to her door by veterans and soldiers to let her know they were going to build her a new house as part of Extreme Makeover!Currently the families are at Walt Disney World for a little “R and R,” but will return this Thursday (July 21st) for the unveiling of their new shelter! And, Michelle Obama is flying in to be a part of it! How exciting! – – The home was built by all facets of the Fayettevilleapartment and business industry, with people from Canada, Chicago, Georgia and other areas driving in to grab a hammer and help build.

Melissa says that she has been so humbled and proud to be a small part of this huge operation to help build the new shelter for the homeless women veterans. The show is going to air in the Fall –so we’ll let you know when!
