This fall, 2009 inductee into the Georgia Apartment Association Hall of fame was Rob Johnston, founder of First Communities. Rob’s long list of accolades make him a worthy recipient of this great honor. Having joined the ranks of the NAA Hall of Fame in 2003, Rob brought years of experience within and service to the multi-family industry as NAA President in 1997, AAA President 1987 & 1991 and board member of both the GAIEF and NAAEI. It is obvious that when Rob finds a passion, he embraces it.
Gamecock fans are proud of Rob’s completion of both the undergrad and graduate programs at his Alma Mater USC. Rob also shared his dedication to our country with our brave military as Captain in the USAF. Multi Family was lucky enough to have attracted a person of high integrity when he founded First Communities in 1978.
The list represents our industry’s glamour positions, but none of them were just given, nor were they the position Rob set out to hold. Rob Johnston is a giver, he has spent many years devoting himself to raising the Multi Family Industry to a new level of respect in the business world.
To me and many others, Rob Johnston is one of those great industry leaders with an extraordinary knack for seeing people for who they can become and helping them get there. But beyond that, Rob’s happy smile, warm laugh and big heart leave their mark on everyone he encounters. Rob started a food drive privately at a property in Atlanta and when a recipient this generosity expressed their thanks, Rob and his team grew that drive until 1987 where it was turned over to AAA. It is now the largest food drive in the world, and it was all born of a personal wish to give back in 1978.
With his national reach, I would like to hear from those of you out in the industry who can give us more. This is our standing ovation for a man who has given our industry so much! Thank you Rob for the years of service, we want you to know the positive impact you have made.
