Beyond Pet-Friendly

I enjoy reading about the amenities that apartment communities offer. The latest ones that I’ve been seeing include cyber cafes, coffee and juice bars, continental breakfasts, saltwater zero-entry pools, and even fitness centers with free personal trainers. According to the National Multi Housing Council, these trends are just the tip of the amenities iceberg. Today, you can find an apartment with community or personal gardens, direct-access garages, theater rooms, tanning beds, video libraries, and more. But my favorite amenities are those involving our four-legged roomies.

There’s no denying that our pets are members of our family, and we want them to be happy. Even the most all-American sport, baseball, is getting in on the act by offering dog days – where baseball fans can bring their well-behaved dogs to enjoy the afternoon at the ball park. Some people even throw lavish weddings for their dogs. Some fashion designers offer pet lines with everything from clothing to pet carriers. And pet products range from the inspired to the ridiculous. With so much focus on pets, it’s no surprise that apartment communities are getting in on the pet-friendly craze.

In the past, pet-friendly meant that the apartment complex would allow you to keep a pet, with certain restrictions, for a fee. Today, you can find a place with no restrictions and even no fees. But that isn’t all – amenities for our pets range from dog biscuits in the office to dog walks, fenced-in dog parks, and even pet spas and washing stations. Since those of us with pets tend to consider their comfort along with our own, this is a smart move on the part of apartment communities.

If you are moving with your pet, finding the perfect place – one that satisfies your wish-list as well as Fido’s – has never been easier … no bones about it!
