The day of a move is always going to be chaotic – no matter how much time and planning is involved. Your overnight box should be the first moving box you unload and unpack at your new place. It should contain all the essentials needed to get through your first night at the apartment. Now sure what to pack? Here are my recommendations:
Keep chargers and external batteries close by so you can watch movies, check email or make phone calls.
Plenty of sleep will help next-day unpacking go a lot smoother. Pack a quilt, bed sheets and pillow inside your box so you can sleep comfortably.
Extra Pair of Clothing
This also includes undergarments and pajamas.
Mouthwash, toothpaste/brush, Q-tips, body wash, shampoo and deodorant are all necessary.
Paper towels, toilet paper, tissues and napkins should be included in your box.
Toilets, sinks, showers and tubs need to be disinfected before moving in. Have these on hand so you can give everything a good rinse.
A flashlight or headlamp is great to pack in your overnight box, just in case there’s bad weather and the electricity goes out.
First Aid Kit
Lugging boxes and furniture may leave some scratches and bruises. A first aid kit containing bandages, cotton balls and antibiotic ointment should help alleviate any pain caused by sharp edges.
This includes utensils, plates and cups for when you order takeout or a pizza.
You’ll need plenty of garbage bags for when you start unpacking. Bubble wrap, used cleaning supplies and items that may have broken during the move will need to be tossed.
